A Theory of Musical Narrative
When we think of narrative music, certain assumptions come quickly to mind—asumption that have strongly colored our responses to the topoc. First, narative music is often thought to be in some way problematic or idiosyncratic;that is we tend to resort to narrative interpretation when traditional formal, harmonic, and generic paradigm do not aply. This book endeavors to question some of these common assumption about narative music and to suggest that narrative organization is far more normative and common than generally conceded.
